10 Reasons to Holiday in Iceland

Geysers, glaciers, waterfalls, lava formations and other geological wonders have carved Iceland into a spectacular tourist destination. Blessed with a splendid natural topography, this island country breeds a rich culture and heritage. Here are 10 reasons to holiday in this picturesque place.

1. Geyser is a vibrant and active geothermal field in Iceland that gives you the chance to spot some of the most intriguing hot springs and geysers. Formed in the 13th century, Geyser still offers some of the most imposing eruptions. Watch out for the Strokkur spring that erupts at regular intervals.

2. Gullfoss Waterfall is a magnificent scenic wonder of Iceland and is a must visit tourist destination. Watch the milky white water gush 32 meters over an indentation into the gorge to become one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.

3. Take an Aurora light viewing tour which is a spectacular natural phenomenon created around geomagnetic poles. The vibrant Auroras have a fascinating mystery, local folklore and mythology woven into their existence in Iceland.

4. A natural pool of geothermal water, the Blue Lagoon beckons all those in search of physical well-being and stress free relaxation. Its waters are said to have intense medicinal properties and offer an exotic natural effect on the body. There are several geothermal spa treatments that visitors can avail of as well.

5. Visit the Volcano Hekla, an active volcano that is a part of a ridges formation and touches the sky to reveal another shining paradigm of Iceland's natural glory. See the lava formations that run through an 18 kilometre expanse.

6. Visit Vatnajokull Glacier, Europe's largest glacier that covers 8% of Iceland. Famed for its volcanic activity as well, Vatnajokull combines the two lethal forces of nature to create a distinctive landscape.

7. Thingvellir National Park sits comfortably on a visually striking volcanic mountain with the backdrop of flowing rivers and lava formations. Visitors will enjoy the informative trivia on Iceland's glorious history, ecology and geology at this hot spot.

8. Turn the pages of Iceland's glorious history at the Arnesinga Folk Museum, located in the Eyrarbakki Village, which houses a vast array of memorabilia of Iceland's original inhabitants and traces patterns of their lifestyle, particularly those of the Arnes region.

9. An Icelandic architectural marvel, the Vidimyri Turf Church is built with a strange mixture of driftwood and turf. Currently the monument serves as a parish church.

10. The Skogar Folk Museum houses thousands of rare and intriguing artifacts from the earliest native dwellers.

A Brief Guide To The Holiday Resort Of Marbella

Marbella has a reputation as being one of the chicest holiday resorts in Spain. The seaside town on the Costa del Sol started to become popular in the 1950's when one of its residents, the exotically named Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe of Liechtenstein, bought 10 hectares of farmland next to the beach. He built a small hotel and some holiday bungalows on the site and named it the Marbella Club. The prince's wealthy friends started holidaying here and Marbella, which actually means beautiful sea, began to develop a reputation as an exclusive resort. Famous celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida, along with rich Arabian oil barons, all became regular visitors.

In the 1980's the resort fell into decline, although a major facelift during the 1990's reversed this trend. Today, Marbella remains a popular holiday destination.

Sightseeing

In the centre of Marbella, to the north of the Avenida Ramon y Cajal, is the picturesque Casco Antiguo or Old Town, with its narrow streets, pretty little squares and quaint whitewashed homes. At the heart of the Old Town is the lovely Plaza de los Naranjos, which dates back to the late 15th centruy. To the east of this square is the Barque-style Iglesia de la Encarnacion with the remnants of the town's old Islamic walls situated nearby.

Art lovers should visit the Museo del Grabado Espanol Contempraneo, which houses prints by Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso, among others.

Marbella's main beach next to the town centre is the pleasant, but unremarkable, Playa de Venus. The best beaches are found slightly to the west of the town centre. These include the 2km-long Playa de Casablanca and the Playa de Nagueles, both of which have lovely golden sand.

Another popular activity in Marbella is shopping, with numerous designer boutiques situated within the Old Town and along the the town's main thoroughfare, the Avenida Ramon y Cajal.

Getting to Marbella

Marbella is about 55km (33 miles) from Malaga's international airport. There is a direct bus service from the airport to Marbella bus station which takes around 45 minutes. For more information, visit ctsa-portillo.com. Taxis from the airport to Marbella cost around 60 euros.

2 Easy to Prepare Holiday Sweet Potato Recipes

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, I enjoy serving a sweet potato side dish with our holiday meals.

The first recipe features fresh cranberries, so I like to serve that one during the Christmas meal. The second recipe is one that I like to make for Thanksgiving dinner and even the children seem to enjoy it.

If you have any left-overs, I would not freeze them as they don't seem to freeze well for me, however, they will keep for up to 3-4 days in your refrigerator.

Yam and Cranberries Casserole

2 large cans of sweet potatoes

1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 cups fresh cranberries, washed and drained

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Wash and drain cranberries and set aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large 2 quart baking dish combine the sweet potatoes with their juice, butter, brown sugar, salt and pepper until all ingredients are well combined. Gently stir in the fresh cranberries. Cover the casserole dish and place in a 350 degree oven and bake for 45 minutes or until done.

Sausage Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

6 large sweet potatoes

2 tablespoons butter, softened

2 1/2 tablespoons milk

1 large egg

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon oregano

4 ounce package of sausage links

In a preheated 350 degree oven, bake the sweet potatoes in a dish until softened. If you prefer, you can bake them in a microwave for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and scoop the potato pulp out and into a large mixing bowl. Stir in softened butter, milk, egg, salt and oregano until ingredients are combined with the pulp. Chop up your sausage links into bite sized pieces and gently fold into the pulp mixture. Spoon the pulp back into the sweet potato shells and place back into the baking dish.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until done.

The Best Holiday Homes in Britain (Part 2)

Beacon Hill Farm - Northumberland

Brecon Hill Farm is made up of 12 wonderfully comfortable cottages which sit atop Longhorsley Hill. Many of the cottages are conversions while some are new builds built in a farmhouse style to make sure they don't distract from the atmosphere. All the cottages offer stunning scenery from their picture windows and guest are allowed the full use of the farm which includes woodland, a lake and nature reserve. If you have gotten through the many books you will find in your cottage and made full use of the DVD player and big TV you could always head down to the farms own health club complete with indoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room, hot tub and a range of beauty treatments. For the little ones there is a games room and adventure playground to keep them entertained.

Mill at Rutter Falls - Cumbria

This fantastic cottage sits next to England's little Niagara Falls, Rutter Falls all on its own. The attached paddle wheel no longer works but the falls are still in full flow. The cottage offer an open planed style living separated across two loft style floors. The main bedroom of the cottage has it own balcony offering stunning views over the falls. The cottage is well equipped with Sky TV, a DVD player and hi-fi. The cottage has its own small garden and river bank, which is a great place to spot the local wildlife including the red squirrel. The Mill is close to the market town of Appleby.

The Chorister's House - North Yorkshire

The Chorister's House in one of just a select few properties available to rent on the National Trust's Fountain Estate which is set with in 400 acres of deer park. The "Burges" stone built building was designed sit next to St Mary's church and offers fantastic views of the grounds. The furnishings and interior reflect the style of the house perfectly with big squashy sofas and antique furniture, though the house does come with all the modern facilities and appliances you would expect. With in the grounds lays the largest monastic ruins in the UK.

North Lees Hall - Derbyshire

The impressive Tower House, designed by Robert Smythson in 1590 lies within the Peak District National Park. The building has a strong link with literary history with Thornfield Hall, the house of Mr Rochester in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, being inspired by North Lees Hall. Stepping through the doors of this house does feel like stepping back to the Elizabethan era with magnificent state rooms and bedrooms with authentic Elizabethan drapery used.

Trevor Hall - Derbyshire

Trevor Hall is a building of some contrast. On the outside the hall looks like a magnificent Garde 1 listed Georgian mansion, while on the inside the hall is a by word of grandeur and opulence with a mix of eclectic styles. Why not stay in the Chinese influenced bedroom which is watched over by its very own Dalek! The house also has its own cinema, music room complete with instruments and even a chapel. All bedrooms offer stunning views of the valley, which is great for hikers. The house is close to Llangollen and is just a day's trip to Snowdonia, Alton Towers and Chester.

Enjoy the Best Caravan Parks in Scotland, and Make the Most of the Summer

Recently, millions have continued to enjoy holidays in the UK, rather than venturing abroad. There is so much to see and do in Britain, and there's no language barrier, no changing currency, and no waiting for hours in congested airports. Many holiday-makers have flown to the Continent once, and sworn 'never again'!

With the country's rich heritage, it's not surprising that holidays in the UK are so popular. The history is all around, whether in a major city, a unique town or village or the stunning countryside. There really is something for everyone, from history buffs to thrill-seeking lovers of extreme sports. And for many, the best place to find everything they need is Scotland.

As well as providing visitors with a warm welcome, it's also home to many beautiful beaches and, of course, a famously picturesque countryside. It's within easy reach of all parts of the UK, so it's no wonder thousands of tourists make their way there every week. For many, a week in Scotland is not enough to fit in all they want to see and do so many return year after year to continue their odyssey.

For many Britons, a caravan provides the perfect way to tour. There's nothing quite as exciting as packing up and towing their home from home to their ideal holiday destination. The freedom of the open road is one of the best things about the summer, especially when you're on your way to a superb location.

Caravan parks in Scotland are among the best in Europe. Located in spectacular surroundings and blessed with all the necessary amenities, they provide a wonderful base for the holiday of a lifetime, and all at remarkably low prices. With no airlines to deal with, no overseas taxes and no transport surcharges, it's not surprising that thousands are turning their backs on the Continent in order to enjoy some fine Scottish hospitality.

There's so much to see in the area, so a large number of people travel from their park for days out. The superb beaches around Ayr in the west and St Andrews in the east are, for example, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a little sea air, while inland the lochs are known throughout the world for their beauty and tranquillity. Try a boat trip across Loch Lomond for the ultimate in scenery, and take your camera.

The cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh exude a sense of history and are home to some of the finest architecture in the world. There is so much to see, from famous art galleries and museums to superb restaurants and lively bars. If visiting for the day, why not take a guided bus tour? The commentary gives the passenger an excellent insight into each fascinating metropolis.

Caravan parks in Scotland are understandably proud of their facilities, their location and their proximity to so many attractions. Book one today and enjoy a carefree summer holiday without the hassle and inconvenience of going abroad.

Family Friendly Vacation and Holiday Activity Ideas for Richmond Upon Thames

Need some inspiration on places to take your children? The Borough of Richmond upon Thames has a range of family friendly activities which children will love - in fact, the whole family will...

Richmond upon Thames is one of the best family vacation destinations in Greater London. Close enough to central London to expose your children to all that has to offer, while offering plenty of family activity to ensure your holidays will be remembered as the perfect family fun vacation.

Having holidays with kids can be difficult because not everywhere is child friendly. Happy children means happy parents which is why we have put together some family vacation ideas for those who enjoy family activities on their holidays. Your kids and family will enjoy their holidays in Richmond upon Thames.

Ceramics Café Kew

How about getting the whole family to try out something creative? Ceramics Café is a relaxed and fun environment to experiment with something different. Choose the ceramic object you'd like to paint, and let your imagination run wild. No experience is necessary and it is a fun outing for young and old alike. This is also one of those great summer activities for kids.

Tiny Teddies

This is a free activity for babies and very young children. These fun baby bounce and rhyme sessions include stories, songs and rhymes and are held in local libraries.

Story Time

Under 5's can enjoy being read a story at the local libraries. These story time sessions are held once a week. Day and time vary depending on which library in the Richmond borough you visit.

Puppet Theatre Barge

Visiting this theatre is a completely unique experience. These imaginative marionette and rod puppet spectacles take place aboard a 50 seater barge which is moored at Richmond on the River Thames between July and October. This fantastic setting makes this an incredibly exciting outing for children.

Boat Hire on the River Thames

Why not really treat the kids (and yourself) by hiring a boat and taking a trip along the river? What fun! Get a completely different perspective of Richmond while feeling the wind in your hair and hopefully the sun on your face... There are a number of different types of boats to hire, so there's something for everyone. Take some bread and feed the ducks on route.

Richmond Park

Richmond Park is the biggest Royal Park in London and is home to many deer which roam around freely. Why not take a slow drive or cycle through the park and see how many deer your children can spot? A picnic lunch is also great fun and a fantastic way to get some fresh air. With wide open spaces your children can run around and expend some energy and also enjoy the playground facilities which are on offer.

Bushy Park

Bushy Park seems to be a favourite of many parents as they have fantastic playground facilities for children. There is a mini café serving a wide variety of refreshments and picnics in the park are also welcomed. Bushy Park is the 2nd largest Royal Park in London so there is plenty of green space for children to run around and play. Like Richmond Park, there are also many deer who roam freely around the park.

Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens has a dedicated interactive play area for children, known as, Climbers and Creepers. This activity centre has been created to help children learn more about the important relationships between plants and animals, whilst having fun climbing and crawling around. Your children will also love the Henry Moore Sculpture Trail which allows them to touch and crawl around his sculptures. They can also follow one of the children's trails around the gardens, crawl through the badgers sett or climb up the aerial walkways amongst the treetops.

Swimming

During the warmer summer months why not visit one of the swimming pools in Richmond upon Thames? The children are bound to love splashing around and you can jump in to cool off too. Swimming is also a great way to keep fit, so if you can encourage your children to swim, then it's a fun form of exercise. Many swimming pools offer specific times that are 'child friendly' so it's a great time to take children who aren't yet familiar with swimming. Why not try out one of the activities mentioned above? It's always great fun to do something new and exciting with children and Richmond creates a perfect environment for that.

Standing Abs Exercises

Not only are these some standing exercises to do with your abs but they will actually work. You will actually see results from these as opposed to sit ups and crunches. That's because sit ups and crunches don't burn enough calories to make a difference.

Let's look at it closer. To lose a single pound of fat you need to burn 3,500 calories. The average person only burns 2,000 calories in an entire day. So you can see how little typical ab exercises do. The exercises I'm going to tell you about however will burn as many as 20 calories a minute! The only thing that comes close to that is cross country skiing up hill.

You are going to use a kettle bell to do these exercises. This is the best device in the gym for building strength, endurance, stamina oh, and burning fat. Here you go.

1. Towel Swings. Thread a very sturdy towel through a KB then start swinging the KB around your head in one direction. Stop switch directions, repeat. This exercise can be done standing up or in the squat position as well.
2. Hook swings. Holding a KB by the handle in your hands at your belt line then simply swing from one side to the other.
3. Overhead rotations. Shoulder press 2 KBs over head and lock your arms out. Now twist at the waist from one side to the other.
4. Rotations with knee raises. Instead of pressing the KBs above your head you will hold them at chest level. As you twist at the waist from one section to another raise your knees to your elbows.

Broken Hill Beckons You

When thinking of taking a vacation to Broken Hill, the phrases "Silver City" and "Accessible Outback" may come to mind. Many people also associate this isolated city to Aussie favourites like "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", the St Pat's races and the common game of "two up".

However, as a tourist destination, Broken Hill offers so much more.

This isolated mining town is located in the far west outback of New South Wales. Its closest major city is South Australia's capital, Adelaide, making it a great place to escape the big city from.

Broken Hill is Australia's longest living mining city and to this day it remains largely dominated by this industry. The city is also known as a centre for artists and this is clearly evident through the many galleries that line the city's streets.

Its position close to the Kinchegan National Park also makes it a popular hot spot for nature, outback and outdoors lovers.

Keeping with the theme of nature, a great place to visit while in town would have to be Sturt Park. Located right in the heart of town this serene park boasts a lot of Broken Hill's history in its grounds. As you wander the grounds you will come across some interesting flora, with an afternoon picnic in the stunning rotunda providing a pleasant way to finish off the afternoon.

The Living Desert Flora and Fauna Sanctuary is another must-see. Located just 9 KM out of the city, this park boasts some of Australia's most beautiful and unique flora and fauna. Top Places to Visit Around Bangalore - Weekend Getaway and Day-trip Holiday Spots

If you are in Bangalore and have gone on weekend trips from here, you would know that finding good destinations and planning a trip is not an easy job.

Check out 4 weekend getaway and day-trip spots from Bangalore in the article below. These destinations are for all kinds of travelers - for the adventure seeker, family vacations, fun outing with friends, bike and car trips....you choose.

1. Innovative Film City

Innovative Film City is an amusement park located in Bidadi, about 50 Kilometers outside Bangalore. It is one of the new theme parks that arrived in Bangalore in 2008. Don't be fooled by the name though.

This theme park has attractions such as a wax museum, dinosaur museum, a special section called 'Cartoon city' for kids, a mirror maze, 4D movies and more. Tickets are a bit pricey though. You'll have to shell out between Rs 300 - Rs 1000 per person depending on what attraction you want to see inside. There are decent food courts where you can have your lunch or grab a bite.

If you want to spend a fun weekend with your friends or family, Innovative film city is definitely worth a visit. Leave early and you can spend a whole day here.

Duration: 1 day Approximate Budget / person: Rs 500 - Rs 1000 Distance : 50 Kms Which route is it on: Bangalore - Mysore highway How to reach : by bus, car, bike Road condition: good

2. Yelagiri Hills - Getaway from the city madness

This less popular hill-station is located near Krishnagiri town on the Bangalore-Chennai national highway. It is about 150 kilometers from Bangalore and around 250 Kilometers from Chennai.

Yelagiri Hills is not your typical touristy destination; this place is meant for those who wish to getaway from the regular monotony of the cities to just relax for a couple of days. The hill station is at a height of about 900 meters (around 3000 feet) and the weather is pleasant all year round.

The main attractions are a lake where you can go boating, Swamimalai - a trek of 3 Kms uphill takes you to a small temple and panoramic views of the mountains. There are plenty of hotels (many which call themselves as resorts) in Yelagiri. Tariffs start from about Rs 400 and goes upto Rs 4000 for cottages. Book at least a week in advance. The hotels get crowded during weekend and holidays.

Duration: 1 - 2 days Approximate budget / person: Rs 1000 - Rs 2000 How to reach: by cars, taxis, buses, train (until Jolarpettai or Tirupattur) Road condition: good

3. Hogenakkal Falls

Hogenakkal literally means smoking rocks (in Tamil). The falls comprise of a numer of smaller waterfalls that make up the beauty of the place. Hogenakkal is located in Dharmapuri district and is about 120 Kms from Bangalore. Perfect for a day-trip, you can drive to here over a Saturday and get a day's off to unwind.

The most popular activity in Hogenakkal is the hot oil massage. For about Rs 50, local masseurs give you a 5-minute full body massage. Though it seems quick, this short duration is enough to loosen tight spots in your body. After the massage, a quick shower under the falls is considered to be therapeutic.

You can also take a ride in the famous 'theppa' or coracle boats which take you around the Kaveri river that forms Hogenakkal falls. You can also taste local delicacies of fried fish, paniyaram (rice cakes) or Poli (Indian sweet).

Staying options are minimal in Hogenakkal. Hotel Tamilnadu, run by the Tamilnadu tourism department, is the only decent one in town. During the tourist season (September - January) you may need to book in advance. You can also stay in Dharmapuri where staying options are better. From Dharmapuri it is a 50 Kms drive to Hogenakkal.

Duration: 1- 2 days Budget / person: Rs 1000 Which route it is on: Bangalore - Krishnagiri (Chennai highway) - Dharmapuri Road condition: Good

4. Talakadu and Shivanasamudram - Submerged in time

Shivanasamudram (sometimes called Shimsha falls) is home to a couple of lovely waterfalls while neighboring Talakadu preserves history in the form of submerged temples. Located about 150 Kms from Bangalore and about 70 Kms from Mysore, Shivanasamudram and Talakadu are both popular picnic and weekend spots. You can reach here after taking a turn after Maddur on the route that goes to Kollegal.

Shivanasamudram Falls actually consists of two separate falls called Gaganachukki and Bharachukki. Shivansamudram is also the site of Karnataka's first hydroelectric project. Both falls carry the waters of river Kaveri from a height of about 90 meters.

Of the two falls you can enjoy Bharachukki most as it can be reached by a flight of steps near the falls while Gaganachukki falls is off-limits. You can take bath under the falls or spend some time frolicking in the pond near the falls. Both falls are located about 5 Kms between each other. During the monsoon season, the falls are in full flow and present a majestic sight.

Talakad is about 20 Kms from Shivanasamudram is famous for the submerged temples that is believed to emerge once in 12 years. Situated on the banks of the river Kaveri it is now a popular picnic spot aside from being a pilgrimage center.

The temples in Talakadu were built by the Hoysalas who were staunch devotees of Lord Shiva. Five such Shiva temples were built in honour of the god. A fair is held once every 12 years to honor the lord. The last such fair was held in 2006. There is also folklore that Talakad was cursed to turn into a mass of sand by a woman named Alamelamma, in the 16th century.

You can visit Shivanasamudram first and then come to Talakadu, see the temples and go for a swim or just chill out in the waters. Water is shallow, but there are weeds and sharp stones which some may find irritating. Catch the sunset here and head back to Bangalore.

There are no good restaurants in Talakadu. It's better to pack your lunch and have it in Talakad. You will find a lot of monkeys around, but you can eat if people take turns to guard from the monkeys. You can fit Shivanasamudram and Talakadu in a 2 day trip - Spend one day in the nearby Ranganathittu bird sanctuary and Srirangapatna and the next day here.

On your way back you can find good number of Dhabas and restaurants outside Maddur on the highway. You can stopover here for dinner while coming back to Bangalore

Duration: 1 - 2 days Approximate budget / person: Rs 1000 - Rs 2000 How to reach: by cars, taxis, buses. Private transport is the best option Road condition: From Bangalore - Maddur, you will find excellent roads. The road from Maddur to Shivanasamudram is in a pathetic state. Leave early in the day to avoid truck traffic and leave before dusk as it can be uncomfortable driving in the dark from Shivanasamudram to Maddur where you hit the highway.

Motorhome Holiday Ideas - Five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Wales

Wales is blessed with enviable natural habitats and if you are planning on hiring a motorhome this summer, the rolling valleys and peaks of the Welsh countryside offer unrivalled opportunities for luxuriating in nature. The Countryside Council for Wales is a public body responsible for protecting and enhancing the natural environment of Wales. Part of its role is to administer areas of outstanding natural beauty in Wales and here we offer a quick guide to five of the top natural habitats in the country.

1. Gower Peninsula
In south-west Glamorgan on the shires of the Bristol Channel, you find the outstanding protected habitat of the Gower Peninsula, which was the very first location in the British Isles to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (back in 1956). The peninsula is a haven for walkers and beachcombers and with 188 square kilometres to explore, there is plenty to keep the whole family occupied.

2. Clwydian Range
Running from Prestatyn in the north to Llandegla in the south, the Clwydian Range is a series of mountains and hills that provide amazing views across north Wales and eastwards across the Cheshire Plain. A number of Iron Age hill forts dot the area, which is a hotspot for both archaeological and geological exploration.

3. Isle of Anglesey
Situated just off the north-east coast of Wales and reachable by road over two suspension bridges, the Isle of Anglesey is the fifth largest island surrounding the coast of the British Isles. Pre-historic peoples populated the island and their mark is left in megalithic monuments that can be visited by tourists. Roman and Iron Age ruins are also visible on the landscape, making this a superb destination for any visitor with an interest in history.

4. Snowdonia
The Snowdonia national park is a region in north Wales encompassing 838 square miles of mountainous country, topped off with the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon, which measures 3,560 feet. It is the third most visited national park in England and Wales with good reason: untouched natural habitat, sweeping vistas and soaring peaks make this a must-see for any traveller to Wales.

5. Brecon Beacons
For such a small country, Wales is blessed with a lot of rugged mountainous terrain and while Snowdonia rises in the north, the south of Wales is dominated by the Brecon Beacons, a range of mountains forming the backbone of the Brecon Beacon National Park. For the intrepid, the area offers incredible climbing, hiking and walking opportunities. But make sure you are dressed to cope with the elements. The weather on the Beacons is notoriously changeable and can switch from fine to inclement in a matter of minutes.

Hot Dogs

The Fourth Of July is an American holiday somewhere between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
It is a time when Americans celebrate their unique heritage and eating hot dogs are as traditional
as apple pie. During the eighteen-sixties, hots dogs were sold from pushcarts by German immigrants in the Bowery section of New York City along with sauerkraut and milk rolls. They were originally made from pork products. Nowdays, they are also made with turkey and beef or all beef making them a much healthier food choice. The bun has always been an important part of what makes a hot dog so special. For the carb and the cholesterol concious, sugar-free whole wheat buns are substituted.

The hot dog meal begins with a chili and cheese combination that includes: dill relish, prepared mustard
and some chopped onion.

Chili Cheese Hot Dog

1-turkey and beef or an all-beef hot dog, pre-cooked

2-heaping Tlbs. commerically prepared brick chili, pre-heated

1-hot dog bun, toasted in a skillet

1-tsp. prepared mustard

1-tsp. dill relish

1/2-cup chopped onion

1/2-cup shredded cheese

Directions: Open the hot dog bun and butter it. Heat a skillet and toast the bun. Place the cooked hot dog inside it and top with the pre-heated chili and the cheese. Place under a broiler heated to 350 degrees and cook for five minutes. Remove and add the mustard, the relish and the chopped onion. Serve with french fries and cole slaw.

Easy Cole Slaw

(Serves 4)

1-package cole slaw, chopped>br>
1/2-cup shredded carrots

1/2-cup onion, chopped

1/2-cup bell pepper, chopped

Salt & pepper

1-Tlb. olive oil

1-tsp. rice wine vinegar

Directions: Combine the vegetables. In a separate bowl: Wisk the olive oil and the rice wine vinegar. Season with the salt and the pepper. Pour the dressing over the ingredients and toss until the ingredients are well combined.

Hot Dogs And Sauerkraut

1-hot dog, pre-cooked

1-hot dog bun

1-slice onion, cut into half

Sauerkraut, pre-cooked

Sweet hot mustard

Directions: On an un-heated bun add the mustard evenly and put the cooked hot dog into it. Add the sauerkraut, the mustard and the onion slice. Serve with some corn chips and baked beans.

Baked Beans

(Serves 4)

2-cans prepared baked beans

1-heaping Tlb. brown sugar

1-heaping Tlb. mustard

3/4-cup ketchup

1-tsp molasses

Salt & pepper

Directions: Combine the ingredients and season with the salt and the pepper. Line a medium baking dish with foil. Pour the ingredients into the baking dish and bake in a 350 degree oven until they are done.

Sometimes, hot dogs are really delicious when they are cooked in a skillet and then put inside a cold hot dog bun with only some mustard for added flavor.

The hot dog meal ends with a favorite flavor of ice cream scopped into an individual bowl or dipped onto the top of an ice cream cone.

Enjoy Your Summers With Proper Air Conditioning

During summer times, people usually prefer going for holidays to a cooler place. But it is not always possible to plan a holiday to some hill resort due to time constraint and sometimes because of budget constrictions. So what is the other effective way to beat the heat this summer? The only way to stay at home and make your indoors cool is through the use of proper and effective air conditioning services.

Now, there are many people who think that if they get a big air conditioner for their home it will take care of their cooling needs during the summer months. This, however, is not always true. If you get an air conditioner that is too big for your room then it will not be as effective if you get a cooler that is of the perfect size for your room. It does not necessarily need to be big and can also be small in size.

Now the cooling units of the room, for it to be more effective, it should run continually for a longer period of time rather than switching on and off every now and then. If the cooling units run continually then it will help in maintaining a more constant room temperature. Also if it runs longer, it helps to remove the moisture from the air. This in turn helps to remove humidity and thus making the room a more comfortable place to be.

It is also important to ensure that you get the sizing of the air conditioner done for your room by the professionals. For instance, if you have a central cooling system for your home, then for effective cooling ensure that the fan and the cooling unit is always shut off at the same time. Hence, it is important that you do not use the central fan of the air conditioner to provide circulation of air. Instead of the fan of the cooling unit, use the circulating fans of every individual room to circulate the air from the air conditioner.

Here are some cooling tips that will help you enjoy your summer this season:

The use of whole house fans is more effective in cooling your home. It keeps your home cool by pulling the cool air into the house. It also exhausts the warm air out through the attic. These are especially effective if operated during the night or when the air outside is cooler.

Maintain a high speed for your fan but not when the weather is humid outside. But if the weather is humid then you should keep the fan at a low speed. You will thus get better cooling.

These are some of the basic things that you need to take care of when setting up a cooling system for your home.
